Dance, film and innovative originality come together in Origin – the future is feminine, led by Scapino's new artistic director Nanine Linning. In this unique programme, two new choreographies and two short dance films showcase the power and creativity of a new generation of female creators.
Choreographers Marie-Louise Hertog, Sarah Baltzinger & Isaiah Wilson create an intense, surprising dance experience with inventiveness, playful humour and a sharp eye for traditions. The films are curated by Cinedans Film Festival, in a unique collaboration with Scapino – a first in the dance world.
In the beautifully designed WAXES (a continuation of Vénus Anatomique), Sarah Baltzinger and Isaiah Wilson reveal the raw power and vulnerability of the female body. With humour, absurdism and relentless theatricality, they invite the audience to rethink the way we view women's bodies. Inspired by the wax museum bodies that were once intended to teach anatomy, WAXES shows a group of women who want to regain control over their bodies.
SACRE is a surprising reinterpretation of Stravinsky's classic Le Sacre du Printemps, in which a young girl is sacrificed for spring. Viewed through a feminist lens, choreographer Marie-Louise Hertog sets a contemporary ritual in motion, in which a group of young men slowly change under the influence of the harsh online manosphere. In their quest for control and status, they sacrifice not a young girl, but themselves.
Their Origin in The Netherlands with Scapino
For Scapino's talent development programme Origin, artistic director Nanine Linning invites promising talent. Under her artistic direction, they will for the first time create a programme for the major theatres that will be presented throughout the Netherlands.

Cinedans
As a bridge between the two world premieres, we are collaborating with Cinedans and forging dramaturgical lines with two short dance films, curated by Cinedans, around the same theme.
Cinedans is the central venue in Amsterdam, and the only organization in the Netherlands, that has focused entirely on dance film since 2003, bringing together presentation, development and international distribution of the genre.
