Guy Weizman & Roni Haver

Roni Haver (1972) and Guy Weizman (1973) are two Israeli choreographers who have been living and working in the Netherlands for many years.

They started out as dancers with Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv, after which they worked with various European companies such as Ultima Vez in Brussels under Wim Vandekeybus, Lanonima Imperial in Barcelona under Juan Carlos Garcia and with Itzik Galili at Galili Dance in Amsterdam and Groningen.

In 2002 they set up their own company in Groningen, Club Guy & Roni. They make dynamic work that touches on topical subjects. At the same time, they always retain a certain mystique and their performers often come up with surprises. Their aim is to seduce, touch and confront the audience, but ultimately they want to inspire people to liberate themselves, to emancipate themselves and to take the freedom to make their own choices. Some notable and successful productions of recent years were Freedom (2021), Swan Lake (2020) Love (2019) and Phobia (2015).

In Groningen, Haver and Weizman work closely with the Noord Nederlands Toneel, which is also led by Guy Weizman, the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Grand Theatre and development institution Station Noord. Slagwerk Den Haag and Asko|Schönberg Ensemble are also regular partners.

The duo is regularly invited to collaborate with other groups. From 2010 to 2014 Haver and Weizman were artists-in-residence at Staatstheater Oldenburg and then at Staatstheater Mainz. In 2011, they entered into a collaboration with the Tsekh Contemporary Dance Centre in Moscow. They also co-produced with the Gotenburg Ballet in Sweden, the Schauspielhaus Kölln in Germany and the Norwegian Carte Blanche.

Guy Weizman and Roni Haver have won a number of major awards. In that respect, 2013 was a triple banner year: they won a Zwaan for best choreography for Midnight Rising, the Russian Golden Mask for the performance L'Histoire du Soldat, and Guy Weizman won the Groninger Cultuurprijs that year.

For Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Guy Weizman and Roni Haver created Bowlers Heaven for TWOOLS 9 in 2007. This dance piece was also included in the Wonderworld programme in 2008.
