TWOOLS 7

TWOOLS 7 is announced as the dance festival of Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. Dancers, choreographers and the audience will provide a varied, stimulating, interesting, atmospheric and surprising dance spectacle. Anything goes in TWOOLS, according to the press release.

All the company's dancers are working on premieres by Roberto Galván, Sacha Steenks, Ben Holder, Uri Ivgi & Johan Greben, Jaakko Toivonen and the red thread created by Ed Wubbe. The short, surprising dance pieces are, as always, made in high tempo and are presented without breaks. Reviewer Isabella Lanz of NRC Handelsblad calls TWOOLS 7 "an infectious programme".

The six choreographers invited by Ed Wubbe, ranging from up-and-coming talent from the Scapino ranks to more established international choreographers, take the idea of 'anything goes' to heart. With Future's Past, Ben Holder presents a contrasting work for one woman and three men. Uri Ivgi & Johan Greben present Eb, a men's quartet on music by Pergolesi and others. Sacha Steenks creates an unsentimental solo about inner struggle with dancer Sandra Marin Garcia: What ifs (or maybes). Jaakko Toivonen shows a playful and fluent male duet with Small Universes and Roberto Galván creates an ensemble piece with Ojala (a dance poem) in which a women's group faces a men's group.

Ed Wubbe weaves a thread through this with four short ensemble pieces: Wilsonian 1 to 4, in which the dancers in Scottish-looking outfits dance clear lines to anarchistic folk/darkwave music, and the duet Non Sequitur, an ode to dancer Natalia Horecna, who knows how to fuse classical and modern dance like no other and who dances here with Mischa van Leeuwen.

Upon entering the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, a video work by Amber Heij, which she made in collaboration with Wubbe and which is part of the Wilsonian series, plays.
