Dancing and the brain

A unique evening with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and neuropsychologist Erik Scherder about the impressive positive effects of dance on the brain.

What does dance do to the brain of children, for example, and how important is dance in disorders of the central nervous system? After a successful first edition in 2020 in collaboration with the Dutch National Ballet, the honour now falls to Scapino Ballet for a Rotterdam edition. An unforgettable evening packed with live dance performances and valuable and surprising scientific insights. With contributions from Conny Janssen Dans, 1stMove, Havo/vwo voor Muziek en Dans, BlackBirds / Dalton Jansen and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam.

Erik Scherder is professor of clinical neuropsychology at the Free University and professor of Movement Sciences at the University of Groningen. Scherder carries out a great deal of research into the influence of movement on the brain and shares this knowledge with a large audience, for example through national TV programmes. The scientist's mission is to get everyone dancing.

Through various (educational) programmes, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam devotes a great deal of attention to the social value of dance and its positive effects on the body.
