Full house for ‘Oscar’ in Carré

In a sold-out theater, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Royal Theater Carré concluded the highly successful series of performances of Oscar last Sunday. The performance, commissioned by Carré in honor of its 135th anniversary, received rave reviews.

In three weeks, 23 thousand visitors found their way to the theater on the Amstel. In the arena dance, theater, circus and live music by Blaudzun came together and choreographer Ed Wubbe created an ode to Oscar Carré, the founder of the theater on the Amstel.

At the final closing applause, special attention was paid to Bonnie Doets, the star dancer is retiring from the dance stage this season after a 30-year career. Oscar was also Ed Wubbe's last new production in his role as artistic director. Wubbe will remain associated with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam as a choreographer.

The eighteen performances of Oscar were almost all sold out. The full ensemble of dancers from Scapino, the eight circus artists from Codarts Circus Arts and Blaudzun received a standing ovation night after night from the audience, which rated the performance with an average of 9.1.

The press was also enthusiastic, calling Oscar "a perfect harmony, in which the various disciplines let each other rise to unprecedented heights, sometimes literally" (Theaterparadijs), "a dazzling spectacle, a joy to watch" (Theatererkrant) and concluded "It's big, it's a lot, but above all it's incredibly good." (Musicalnieuws).
