The Square Recordings

Young makers go on an adventure in this online edition of The Square. Expect a series of totally different and surprising nights around a dance piece by a promising talent. All pieces have been adapted for video and are filmed on special locations.

Besides dance you can expect a look behind the scenes of Scapino and you have the option to participate in a Q&A with the dancers and makers.

Choreographers Alba Castillo, Justin de Jager, Joost Vrouwenraets, Borna Babić and Shailesh Bahoran will create work for The Square recordings before the summer. After the first two sessions with Alba Castillo and Justin de Jager, there will be new livestreams on our video platform Scapino Streamt on June 3, 10 and 17.

Programme

Yantra bby Shailesh Bahoran from Theater Zuidplein

Working from his Indian roots, he contributes figures (Yantras), symbols that refer to a certain form of energy. What follows is an intuitive process between a young, passionate choreographer and Scapino's two most experienced dancers: Bonnie Doets and Mischa van Leeuwen.

Fall of a sparrow by Joost Vrouentaets from Discovery Museum Kerkrade

Fall of a sparrow is a new piece by Joost Vrouenraets, his first encounter with our dancers. He took Scapino's dancers to what might be the most spectacular movie hall of The Netherlands: inside the Discovery Museum in Kerkrade.

The end does not see by Borna Babiç from Zeilschip Eendracht

The End does not see follows the journey of seven people who try to break the limitations, to leave things behind and to achieve what we call freedom, so the illusion. Choreographer Borna Babić and filmmaker Davide Belotti created this dance film on tallship Eendracht.

What remains by Alba Castillo from Theater aan de Schie

Past and present, fantasy and reality are ingeniously intertwined. Choreographer Alba Castillo creates pure dance poetry with a touch of magic with her soft and flowing style.

Carried alive by Justin de Jager from Garage Rotterdam

Dance as a continuous flow, looking for possibilities, openings and solutions. Choreographer Justin de Jager creates a hypnotic spectacle by endlessly linking movements.
