Jonge vrouw met haar hand in haar nek

Liat Magnezy

Liat Magnezi has two degrees in Tel Aviv: fine arts from Ascola-Meimad College for Art Design & Architecture and Dance & Movement from Kibbutzim College. She has a great love for film.

In 2003 she came to the Netherlands where she studied choreography at Codarts in Rotterdam. During her training she already choreographed several pieces and in 2004 she worked as an assistant choreographer for Anouk van Dijk. Even during her studies she won the Scapino Production Prize at the International Choreography Competition in Hannover in 2005, after which she was invited to TWOOLS and could start a research project at Dansateliers. She also won a grant from the Fonds Podiumkunsten for an intensive coaching programme for choreographers in Zürich, SiWiC.

About her work, Liat Magnezy says: "As a film lover, I tend to experiment with the idea of time travel in a 'live' dance performance. In my work process, I experiment a lot with the techniques used in filmmaking, such as 'cutting' and 'editing'."

In 2007 Magnezi set up her own foundation, DanceMotionPicture, from which she produces her work that can be seen at various venues and festivals in Europe and Israel. In 2008 she was co-founder of Ruimte in Beweging in Schiedam, a centre for visual and performing arts.

For Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Liat Magnezi created the piece Line Up in 2006 for TWOOLS 8.
