in 'Songs for Drella'
ED WUBBE & MARCO GOECKE
Music by Lou Reed and John Cale
The rollercoast life of a world famous artist, music that inspired so many rock bands and a unique collaboration between two acclaimed choreographers: ‘Songs for Drella’ has all the ingredients of a breathtaking, dynamic dance project.
Marco Goecke and Ed Wubbe have joined their creative talents in a joint production inspired by three pop culture icons: Andy Warhol, Lou Reed and John Cale. In the nineteen sixties, Andy Warhol’s New York studio The Factory is the epicentre of cutting edge art and rock music, attracting musicians like Lou Reed and John Cale with their band The Velvet Underground.
When Warhol - nicknamed Drella – dies in 1987, Reed and Cale decide to work together one more time on a legendary farewell concert: ‘Songs for Drella’. This ode to Warhol is the rich source of inspiration for ‘choreographer in residence’ Marco Goecke – who, like Warhol is provocative and innovative - and artistic leader Ed Wubbe.
Wubbe and John Cale worked together in 1997 on what was to be come one of Scapino’s most successful productions about another Velvet Underground superstar: ‘Nico’.
